Take the stone train on Gotland’s longest railway. Visit the rubble beach. Café and restaurant in unusual settings.
Vibble Car Museum
A dynamic museum with cars, motorcycles, tractors and bicycles. Children can practise sensible driving on the go-cart track. Café.
Visby Car Museum
There’s more to see for young (and adult) motor enthusiasts: the car museum on Lummelunds Väg in Visby shows cars, motorbikes and bicycles.
Stora Karlsö and Lilla Karlsö
Visit these two islands off the coast of Gotland with their caves and limestone stacks. Visit the bird sanctuaries where thousands of auks, guillemots, razorbills and cormorants breed. See horned Gotlandic sheep, known as åilambi, which roam in their hundreds on Lilla Karlsö. This is the ultimate nature adventure!

Lummelunda
Lummelunda’s underground cave system was discovered by three schoolboys in 1948-55. Share their summer adventure in beautiful Lummelunda, which also has a long, attractive stony beach and excellent walking areas by the sea and along Lummelundsån River.
Trojaborg
Do your children love running round and round in circles? Take them to Trojaborg, a prehistoric maze above Norderstrand Campsite. The campsite also has mini-golf facilities.
Etelhem pottery
Unleash your creativity! At Etelhem pottery, children can try using a potter’s wheel. Better still, they can make their very own pot!
Riding – a Gotlandic tradition
Gervide and Dalhem are just two of the stables on Gotland offering horse riding for all ages. And don’t miss the wild Gotland ponies at Lojsta!
Tallunden Playground
In the Söder district of Visby, there is a sumptuous green oasis with an inviting playground full of things to delight children, including city walls, towers and trains. Surrounding it are grassy areas perfect for running and ball games.
Almedalen
In Visby centre, there is a fun playground for small children near the sea. Bring a packed lunch or buy refreshments from the nearby library.

Krusmyntagården
A beautiful herb garden by the sea with a charming gift shop selling fragrant spices and fun trinkets. The manageress has her own tiny tots, and knows that children like to eat quickly and then play. The playground is beside the outdoor café serving delicious Gotlandic food.
Mix Ranch
A sports and play centre for the whole family. There is a fun playground and a small pool beside the restaurant. Try the football golf!
St. Hans Café
Inside St. Hans ruin is a café selling coffee, sandwiches and traditional food. The dining area is spacious, and the surroundings are sufficiently exciting to keep children engrossed while they eat.
Toftagården
Toftagården Restaurant is situated near Gotland’s famous Tofta Beach, about 20 km south of Visby. It serves excellent food and has a playground nearby – ideal for discerning children and adults!
Sun and sea
Norderstrand Beach
Walking distance from Visby centre. Swings and a kiosk.
Snäckviken Beach
Close to Visby. Waterslides, sandy beach and café.
Ireviken Beach
30 km north of Visby. Sand and pebble beach with all facilities beside Ihrebaden youth hostel. Close to Ihre Gård, a cosy farm with horse riding, small, tame animals and a shop.
Åminne Beach
Lovely shallow shelving beach near a holiday village and campsite. Facilities include ice cream, food and a pool for bathers who don’t want to swim in the sea.
Holmhällar Beach
An extraordinary site full of limestone stacks. Off-shore is the island of Heligholmen, with limestone stacks and caves. Kilometres of sandy beaches start to the west of Holmhällar. Holmhällar Pension is conveniently close.
Visby Beach
Bathe in the centre of town! A sandy beach a short walk from Almedalen.
Public swimming pools
Visby has outdoor swimming pools in Terra Nova and the Melonen district near ICA Bingebyhallen. There are public indoor pools in Hemse, Roma, Fårösund and Visby.
Classics
A list of Gotland’s beaches would be incomplete without Sudersand on Fårö and Tofta. They have endless kilometres of silky sand and are highly popular in summer. Facilities include ice cream kiosks, mini golf courses and cafés.
Fresh water bathing
Tingstäde Träsk is Gotland’s largest lake. A lovely bathing alternative for those who prefer fresh water. Ask our staff in the Tourist information centre for more tips! |
